It’s been a slow news day in Kansas City about trades or free agent moves. But this evening, the Chiefs appear to have come to terms with their first draft pick.
According to a tweet by Colorado Cornerback
Jalil Brown
, who the Chiefs drafted in the fourth round, indicated that his paperwork was complete.
Brown becomes the first draft pick to sign on the dotted line. With training camp set to begin on Friday afternoon at Missouri Western, it’s likely that Brown and some of his fellow draftees could be signed in time to make the bus trip up I-29.
The Chiefs drafted Brown for depth at the cornerback position. He had a solid season for the Buffaloes last season. However, he’s not expected to threaten either
Brandon Carr
or
Brandon Flowers
for a starting job. Instead, that competition may come from a free agent acquisition. For more on that topic, check out our Insider Blog.
Brown will enter the season as a back-up. And with second year
Javier Arenas
, the two give the Chiefs a pair of young cornerbacks that will much needed depth to their talented secondary.
