Report: Chiefs Sign DT Kelly Gregg

According to a report at National Football Post, the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a one-year deal with veteran defensive tackle Kelly Gregg.

With talks coming up empty with veteran San Francisco 49ers Defensive Tackle Aubrayo Franklin, the Kansas City Chiefs stepped up their efforts to fill the void by departed defensive lineman Ron Edwards and Shaun Smith.

Early Saturday morning, they came to terms with Wichita Kansas native, Kelly Gregg.

The former Raven is entering his 12th NFL season and was a key cog in the middle of the Baltimore defense in nine of the last ten seasons.

Though he only has 19.5 career sacks. His job is to occupy space at the point of attack on the defensive line.

At this point, unless talks with Franklin change significantly, Gregg will battle rookie Jerrell Powe and veteran Anthony Toribio for the starting nose tackle position in Kansas City.

This is a good signing by the Chiefs. It's safe, not flashy and isn't going to burn up the Twitter, but it's a good pick up.

If the Chiefs can get one more productive year out of Gregg and give Powe time to grow into a starters role, this move makes a lot of sense.

Scouting Report: Tough guy, a bit up in years. Should be a fan favorite with his style of play. Plays with outstanding leverage as a former wrestler. Very stocky build. Powerful upper body. Good in pursuit and runs better than you would think considering what he looks like. - Aaron Wilson - Ravens
