Chiefs Hire Daboll

The search for a new offensive coordinator is over in Kansas City? The Chiefs have hired former Miami Dolphins coach, Brian Daboll.

When Romeo Crennel was promoted from defensive coordinator to hear coach, he said it might take a few weeks to find his next offensive coordinator. Well it took a little longer than that.

In the wee hours of Saturday morning, news broke that Crennel and General Manager Scott Pioli had decided upon Daboll as their new offensive coordinator.

Daboll, who has three years experience as the man calling the shots on offense, two in Cleveland and last season in Miami. The Dolphins offense was solid in the second half of the season and Daboll, did a remarkable job with third string quarterback, Matt Moore who guided the team to some respectable numbers on offense.

For the season, the Dolphins offense ranked 20th but that ranking might be a bit low based on how Moore played when he took over the starting quarterback duties in Miami.

In Kansas City, Daboll, inherits a team that has some playmakers on offense. However, it's going to be his ability to develop Quarterback Matt Cassel. At the moment, the Chiefs are looking at adding another quarterback to the roster to compete with Cassel.

Among the candidates are Kyle Orton, who started three games for the Chiefs last season and soon to be free agent, Peyton Manning. Though the later move by the Chiefs would seem outside of their recent conservative nature. But there are rumblings that Kansas City might have some interest in the Colts quarterback.

Though the hot rumor persists that Manning will end up with Daboll's former team, the Dolphins.

Whoever the Chiefs decide as their starter in 2012, Daboll has some weapons to work with in running back Jamaal Charles, wide receivers Dwayne Bowe, Steve Breaston, Jon Baldwin and tight end Tony Moeaki.

If the Chiefs can upgrade their offensive line, then Daboll could be a hero next season in shaping KC's offense into one of the better units in the AFC.
