KC Chiefs Sign TE Kevin Boss
TE Kevin Boss

There’s something about the evening hours that appeal to the Kansas City Chiefs about signing free agents. On Thursday night, the team announced the signing of former Oakland Raiders Tight End, Kevin Boss.
After losing out on
John Carlson
Wednesday to the
Minnesota Vikings
, the
Kansas City Chiefs
acted quickly inviting Raiders Tight End
Kevin Boss
into town. After taking a physical and meeting with the offensive coaches, they signed him to a 3-year deal worth $9 million.
But it gets even better for the Chiefs. Because of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, the Raiders will pay nearly $2 million of that contract in 2012.
That aside, the addition of Boss is a strong move for the Chiefs. With
Tony Moeaki
coming off a season ending knee surgery, Boss will bring a level of experience as a starter and back-up. He’s a solid route runner, has great hands and can block.
And that might have been the overriding factor in bringing the former Raider to Kansas City. With the addition of running back
Peyton Hillis
the day before, the fact the Chiefs were still flirting with former Chargers bruiser, Michael Tolbert, it’s clear this team is going to run the ball a lot in 2012.
That also means that
Brian Daboll
’s new offense could be run first, play-action pass second. And that fits perfectly into the talents of Quarterback,
Matt Cassel
.
Boss entered the NFL back in 2007 as a fifth-round pick of the
New York Giants
. And last season with the Raiders had caught 28 passes for 368 yards and found the end zone three times.
However, those numbers could be significantly higher in Kansas City especially if Daboll incorporates an offense that uses both Boss and Moeaki on the field at the same time.
This move does indicate that the Chiefs are trying to gain some bulk for their offense and now they have the luxury of two talented tight ends for their improved offense in 2012.
