Chiefs vs. Rams: 5-Pack

After the Kansas City Chiefs 31-17 loss to the St. Louis Rams on Saturday night, there were five note worthy items to take from the teams second exhibition game.
1. 12-Pack
- I love the 12 Package. The Chiefs tight ends definitely in effect tonight. Whether it’s
Kevin Boss
,
Tony Moeaki
, Steve Maneri or Jake O’Connell – all have the ability to catch the football as well as help block in the running game. Double tight end formations will be a frequent site this season.
2. Where are the Wide receivers?
- For a second consecutive game the only “first team” wide receiver to have a catch was
Dexter McCluster
. It was good to see the Chiefs target Jonathan Baldwin early but a fumble on his only reception negated a drive.
Steve Breaston
and Baldwin have had a great training camp but have been invisible in the Chiefs first two preseason games.
3. Where’s the Secondary?
- For the first time in the exhibition season, Kansas City’s secondary struggled in man-to-man coverage. Cornerback,
Stanford Routt
, had a tough night early as Rams Quarterback
Sam Bradford
picked on his side of the field for two early scores.
4. Linebackers Ready
- All Pro linebackers,
Derrick Johnson
and
Tamba Hali
, can’t wait for the September 10th opener to arrive. Both flew to the football and appear to be in regular season form. However, on the inside,
Jovan Belcher
, struggled at inside linebacker.
5. NT Wars
- The battle for the starting nose tackle spot between
Dontari Poe
and
Anthony Toribio
is great to watch. It’s also quickly becoming a strength of the defensive line. Both played well tonight. Poe showed a wealth of raw talent and is just “country strong”. Toribio did a great job of holding the center up and getting penetration into the Rams backfield.
