Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards isn’t tipping his hand as to which man he might choose to replace Mike Solari, but one thing is certain - all the candidates thus far have a history in developing quarterbacks.

The latest to interview for KC’s offensive coordinator position is Jim Fassel, who tutored John Elway at Stanford before developing Phil Simms and Kerry Collins in New York.

Fassel, who was named NFL Coach of the Year in 1997 with the Giants, was fired from his position as Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator in October of 2006. He was widely criticized for his vanilla offense and inability to develop Kyle Boller.

That doesn’t mean he can’t get the job done with Brodie Croyle. His name is a bit of a surprise as Edwards has already interviewed UTEP offensive coordinator Eric Price and former Georgia Tech head coach Chan Gailey. Both Price and Gailey have not interviewed with any other NFL teams. Neither was offered the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator job at the time of their respective interviews.

Edwards is expected to interview current Jacksonville Jaguars quarterbacks coach Mike Shula sometime within the next 48 hours before making a final decision on the offensive coordinator position.

Fassell had a 58-52 record as head coach in New York. Of all the candidates, he has the most experience in developing quarterbacks.
