The Kansas City Chiefs announced Wednesday afternoon that former Georgia Tech head coach Chan Gailey will be their offensive coordinator in 2008. | |||

"The best compliment I can pay Chan Gailey is that he’s tough," said head coach Herm Edwards in a prepared statement. “He’s been through the battles as both a head coach and an offensive coordinator. He’s called the plays and he has performed under pressure." "But just as importantly, Chan is an excellent teacher - wherever he’s coached he has designed dynamic offenses to take advantage of his players' skills. He understands how to orchestrate a balanced offensive plan. He’s going to be a good fit for our philosophy and our football team. The Chiefs will be better because of Chan Gailey." Previous to his six-year stint at Georgia Tech, Gailey served as offensive coordinator with the Miami Dolphins (2000-01) and Pittsburgh Steelers (1996-1997). He was briefly head coach of the Dallas Cowboys (1998-99). Gailey’s offenses are noted for dominant rushing attacks. In Pittsburgh, former Steeler great Jerome Bettis enjoyed two career seasons under Gailey. Lamar Smith ran for a career high 1,139 yards in 2000 with Miami.
