Warpaint Illustrated has confirmed that the Kansas City Chiefs have filled the majority of the assistant offensive coaching positions. Here’s the rundown on the new staff.
OFFENSIVE LINE – Bob Bicknell
After serving as assistant offensive line coach a year ago, the Chiefs have promoted Bicknell as he begins his second season in the NFL. Bicknell previously coached offensive line at Temple University in 2006, where two linemen qualified for All-Star Team and All-American honors under his watch. Prior to that he spent eight consecutive years in NFL Europe.
ASSISTANT OFFENSIVE LINE - Joe D'Alessandris
After coaching Georgia Tech’s offensive line for six years, D'Alessandris joins Chan Gailey in Kansas City. At Tech, D'Alessandris helped the Yellow Jackets lead the ACC in rushing this year. He’s credited with converting
Mansfield Wrotto
from defensive tackle to offensive line in 2006, helping the right tackle find a place in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks. Several other D'Alessandris prodigies have gone on to the NFL including Andy Tidwell-Neal,
Kyle Wallace
,
Leon Robinson
,
Nat Dorsey
and
Hugh Reilly
.
RUNNING BACKS – Curtis Modkins
Modkins joins the Chiefs after serving as Chan Gailey’s running backs coach at Georgia Tech for five years. Under Modkins, the Yellow Jackets had the leading rusher in the Atlantic Coast Conference three times in five years. Tech led the ACC in rushing yards, yards per carry and rushing touchdowns a year ago.
WIDE RECEIVERS –
Karl Dorrell
After five seasons as head coach at UCLA, Dorrell was fired in December. He has previous NFL experience as a wide receivers coach from three years in Denver, where he helped Rod Smith and Ed McCaffery develop into one of the best receiving tandems in the league. The pair combined for 201 receptions in 2000. Dorrell is also credited with helping Charles Johnson and Michael Westbrook flourish at Colorado in the early 90s.
QUARTERBACKS – ???
At the moment Dick Curl remains Kansas City’s quarterbacks coach, but we’ve learned that it’s a possibility Eric Price could end up taking over the position if he chooses to leave his current job as offensive coordinator at the University of Texas-El Paso. Price briefly coached
Brodie Croyle
at Alabama and has history with Herm Edwards, as he served as an offensive assistant with the New York Jets in 2001 and 2002, where he was instrumental in preparing quarterback
Chad Pennington
to play. Price also coached quarterbacks at Washington State from 1998-2000.
