Chiefs add former Ravens wideout

Tuesday the Kansas City Chiefs added former Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Devard Darling. The four year veteran signed a three-year deal.

This might not be the big news Chiefs fans had hoped for at the wide receiver position, but after cutting veteran Eddie Kennison and not making an attempt to re-sign free agent Samie Parker, Kansas City's receiving corps was thin.

Right now the Chiefs have last year's first-round draft pick, Dwayne Bowe, as the #1. Darling could compete for the #2 slot if the Chiefs don't select a wide receiver at the top end of the NFL Draft next month.

Either way, Darling will have competition (though unproven) in third-year receiver Jeff Webb and second-year AFL castoff Bobby Sippio.

According to our source, the Chiefs believe Darling is a viable option at the second receiver slot. Though the 6-foot-1 receiver only caught 20 passes in four seasons with the Ravens, but didn't get much playing time behind veteran receivers Derrick Mason and Mark Clayton.

The Chiefs were looking for an under-the-radar receiver target in free agency and this move can be attributed to KC's new wide receivers coach, Eric Price, who recruited Darling to Washington State. Recommended Stories
