NFLExperts.com Analyst Tom Marino and Warpaint Illustrated.com Publisher Nick Athan offer instant analysis on the Chiefs first pick in the 2008 draft, defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey.
Instant Analysis: Tom Marino
Obviously he gives the Chiefs an impact player on the inside. He's got outstanding strength and quickness. He's the top defensive line prospect in this year's draft. I love his intensity level, I love the way he converts speed to power. He makes plays in the neutral zone. He's a destructive force. He's really going to be a key to that defense coming in there from the go. He's got a high ceiling as a player. I think he has great work ethic and he's just the kind of guy you want in your program.
The only negative I see is that he was in braces, he had a stress fracture that lingered a long time. Obviously people in the NFL thought he was going to be healthy and there are no concerns about that. But to me he's an outstanding player, he starts from day one, and makes the Chiefs a better football team.

As word spread this morning that Glenn Dorsey and not
Chris Long
was sliding into the Chiefs lap, head coach Herm Edwards had to be pinching himself. By drafting Dorsey, Edwards now has the same inside disruptive force he had in Tampa Bay when he watched
Warren Sapp
blossom into an All-Pro.
Edwards and his LSU representative,
Dwayne Bowe
, personally scouted Dorsey at LSU's pro day last month. When I talked with one of the Chiefs’ officials this morning, I was told there was no way Kansas City would pass on Dorsey if he was available. The Chiefs were tempted to make a deal with the New Orleans Saints, but the price wasn't right.
Now the Chiefs can line up last year’s third-round pick, Tank Tyler, alongside Dorsey in 2008. Between those two, KC’s defense should be better against the run. What Dorsey also gives the Chiefs is a pass rusher in the middle of the defensive line. That's something they haven't had in a long time.
Pre-Draft Scouting Report:
A top prospect who converts quickness to power. Can split a double team, range to make plays and when he came and countered on his pass rush was virtually impossible to single block. Loved his intensity level , quickness, strength and know how. Strong at the point and showed good movement down the line. Took good angles away and has the speed and quicks to factor outside the tackle box. Injured for much of the 2007 season. A real difference maker.
