NFLExperts Analyst Tom Marino and Warpaint Illustrated.com Publisher Nick Athan offer instant analysis on the Chiefs seventh-round pick, Brian Johnston. | |||
|
Instant Analysis: Tom Marino Four-year starter at Gardner-Webb. He’s one of these guys who gives you a day’s work. He’s an active player and he makes some plays. He doesn’t have a real plan as a pass rusher. He’s one of these guys who’s a high effort guy. I don’t see anything real special about him other than the fact he’s an inside, try-hard guy. People are looking at him as a defensive end, but I look at him more as a tackle at 285, 290 pounds. He needs to learn to use his hands better and get off blocks once he gets initiated. He’s been relatively injury free and played a lot of football so he’ll have at least a chance to make KC’s practice squad. Instant Analysis: Nick Athan This pick represents the best available athlete for a position of need. In college Johnston was a candidate for the Buck Buchanan award his senior season at Gardner-Webb. He has good size and weight. He also has pass rushing skills and was dominant at his level. Pre-Draft Analyst: Dominating performer at small college level. May end up as a defensive tackle at the next level. |
