The Chiefs agreed to terms with quarterback Ingle Martin Tuesday. Many onlookers believed the Chiefs were in the market for a free agent quarterback after Brodie Croyle suffered a separated shoulder Sunday against the Patriots, but Martin's name wasn't flying around the rumor mill.

According to a league source, both Chris Simms and Tim Rattay met with the Chiefs today, making the acquisition of Martin an especially puzzling one. Martin was a fifth-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2006.

Martin is a Tennessee native and played with the Titans during the 2008 offseason, but didn’t make the team. He started his college career as a Florida Gator, but transferred to Furman after being replaced by Chris Leak as the starter during his sophomore year. Martin led the Paladins to a 21-6 record over two years.

Does Martin’s signing mean no Simms or Rattay? Maybe not - there's some speculation that Martin is Thigpen’s replacement. One of the other quarterbacks may be brought in.
