Chiefs running back Larry Johnson was suspended from Sunday’s game against Tennessee for breaking unspecified team rules. Now, the breaking of team rules may be the least of Johnson’s problems.
Last week news broke about Johnson receiving a court date for an incident that occurred at a Kansas City night club in February. Now the NFL and KC authorities are investigating Johnson because of another complaint filed by a woman about an incident that reportedly happened during the Chiefs' bye week.
ESPN’s Michael Smith broke the story of an investigation and reported that his league sources believe a suspension is looming and the only question is the length of the suspension. Smith is also reporting it’s unclear whether Johnson has been charged with a crime in relation to the latest incident.
Chiefs president Carl Peterson issued this statement about the incident:
“We are aware of the most recent incident involving Larry Johnson and we are very disappointed with his involvement...We will cooperate fully with the Kansas City authorities who are investigating the matter. We have also made the NFL office in New York aware of the incident and officials there are conducting their own independent investigation.”
This is Johnson’s fourth such incident during his time in Kansas City. In 2003 charges were filed against him for threatening a former girlfriend with a firearm. Upon agreeing to enter a domestic abuse program, the charges were dropped.
In 2005 charges were filed by a woman who claimed Johnson pulled her into a corner and threw her on the floor in a KC nightclub. Charges were dropped after the woman missed three hearings on the issue. The third and fourth incidents are the one previously mentioned.
