After arguably the worst loss of the 2008 season at Arrowhead Stadium Sunday, a major change took place within the Chiefs' organization Monday afternon. Carl Peterson, President/General Manager/CEO of the Chiefs since 1989, resigned, and will be out at the end of the season.

Chiefs Chairman of the Board Clark Hunt thanked Peterson for his long service to the franchise.

“On behalf of my family and the entire Kansas City Chiefs organization, I want to thank Carl for his two decades of service to the Chiefs,” Hunt said. “Both Carl and I agreed that immediately initiating the search for the next Chiefs General Manager would be the best thing for the future of the organization, and he will be resigning following the 2008 season.”

There has been some speculation that Bill Kuharich, Kansas City's Vice President of Player Personnel, might replace Peterson, but Hunt told Warpaint Illustrated's Nick Athan that the Chiefs would look outside the organization for Peterson's successor.

Either way, Peterson's resignation signals the start of a new era beginning at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs have not won a playoff game since 1993, and have only two playoff appearances in the last 10 years.
