Chiefs Cut Eight Players

With the final 53-man roster due to the NFL Saturday afternoon, the Kansas City Chiefs began the purge with eight cuts Friday afternoon.
It didn’t take long for fans to rejoice over the fact that much-maligned right tackle
Damion McIntosh
was among the eight players cut.
McIntosh, who was signed as a free agent in 2007 from Miami, was penciled in as KC's starting right tackle this year. But he was routinely beat in four preseason games and his play declined significantly last season. Clearly
Scott Pioli
and Todd Haley feel they have better options on the roster or can pick up a better tackle from another team's cuts.
Still, the move to cut McIntosh is curious considering the Chiefs also cut tackle Herb Taylor and guard
Tavares Washington
. Clearly the Chiefs may be waiting for other players to get their NFL pink slips, or are working on a trade. Our guess is a trade is in the works.
One target could be tackle
Tony Pashos
of Jacksonville. He’s due a base salary of $4.34 million this year and the Chiefs are one of a few teams with the cap space to sign Pashos.
If both teams were in a giving mood, the Chiefs could ship off quarterback
Tyler Thigpen
straight up for Pashos. Even though Thigpen may end up getting cut, it makes sense for both teams to dump a player they don’t want. The Jaguars had offered the Chiefs a fifth-round pick for Thigpen but two straight poor showings likely diminished his trade value.
Players cut by the Chiefs on Friday:
RT Damion McIntosh
LT Herb Taylor
OG Tavares Washington
FB
Jed Collins
CB
Travis Daniels
CB
Londen Fryar
C
Eric Ghiaciuc
LB
Corey Smith
.
