Biography:
Doug Brien signed a one-year deal with the Bears on May 16. The veteran is expected to be the Bears placekicker. His 81.1 percent conversion rate on field goals makes him the tenth most accurate kicker in NFL history. Originally drafted in the third round of the 1994 draft by the San Francisco 49ers.

2004: Kicked in all 16 regular season games and finished the season 24-of-29 (82.8%) with a long of 53 yards on FG and 33-of-34 on XP. Connected on 3-of-6 FG in postseason play including a 28 yard FG in OT to defeat the Chargers in San Diego.

2003: Converted on 27 of his 32 FGA (84.4% - third best in Club history), going 27-for-28 from inside 50 yards and was successful on all 24 of his PAT on the season& Crossed the 100-point plateau for the season and 800 points for his career,

2002: Played in 6 games for the Minnesota Vikings and hit 5-of-6 FG and 5-of-7 PAT, scoring 20 points on the season. Released by Minnesota on 10/23/02

2001: Signed by the Indianapolis Colts on Dec. 5. Played in 1 contest at MIA Dec. 10 and handled the kickoff duties for the Colts. Signed on Dec. 27 with Tampa Bay and connected on 5-of-6 FG as a Buccaneer. Released by the Colts on Dec. 15.

2000: Played in 16 games for the New Orleans Saints and both playoff games. Reached the 600-point mark for his career and eclipsed more than 500 points with the Saints. Finished 106 points. Made 23-of-29 FG, including 12-of-15 FGA between 40-49 yards. Eclipsed the 100-point mark for the second time in his career and his first since his rookie season.

1999: Led the Saints with 92 points on the year, hitting 24-of-29 FG and 20-of-21 PAT. Booted 20-of-21 PAT, which included his first miss as a Saint and only the third of his career.

1998: Converted on career-best 90.9% of his FGA (20-of 22), which ranked 3rd in the NFL and marked the most prolific conversion rate in team history. Also converted on all 31 PAT on the year. Was voted as a first alternate to the Pro Bowl.

1997: Converted all 22 PAT and 23-of-27 FG on the year. His 85.2% FG accuracy was good for the fourth-most accurate season percentage in team history at the time and was tied for third-best in the NFC. Was voted as an alternate to the Pro Bowl. Was voted NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. His 91 points on the year tied for ninth in the NFC in scoring. Kicked 3 game-winning FG on the season in the span of four weeks at OAK, in OT vs. SEA; and at CAR. Hit 4-of-5 FG from more than 50 yards.

1996: In his first full season with New Orleans, he proved to be one of the most valuable kickers in the NFL. Connected on all 18 PAT and made 21-of-25 FG on the year. Kicked 3 FG of more than 50 yards, including a long of 54 yards against CHI. Led the team in scoring with 81 points.

1995: Opened the season with the 49ers, where he played the opening 6 games before being waived on 10/16. Signed by New Orleans on 10/31. Between two destinations converted 19-of-29 field goals and all 35 PATs.

1994: Led the 49ers in scoring his rookie season with 105 points. Established club records for PAT made (60) and PAT attempted (62).

COLLEGE: Set the California career record for FG with 56. Is also Cal's all-time leader in scoring (288 points) and in FG accuracy (80.0%, 56-for-80). Earned All-Pac 10 honors twice.
